Grayslake Bars and Prohibition

Grayslake’s first known tavern building--called Charlie’s today--became a silent movie theater during Prohibition and was back to being a var shortly after selling alcohol became legal once again. In our latest exhibit, you’ll learn about who was selling illegal booze, what your favorite watering hole used to be, and more.
