October 12, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum
Join us at the Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum on Thursday, October 12 at 7 p.m. as Dave Oberg explores the history of early baseball and its connection to the Civil War. Learn the rules soldiers in blue and gray would have known, the cheers and jeers they would have used, and the role of the war as an incubator for the sport, transforming an east coast fad into the national pastime. Oberg serves as the Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum’s Executive Director and has managed and umpired for 19th century rules baseball teams for the past 16 years, as well as researched early baseball in Illinois. As we anticipate the World Series, baseball fans and Civil War buffs alike will have the chance to explore the early history of the game and its important role in boosting morale during the nation’s fiery trial. The museum is located at 164 Hawley Street, Grayslake, IL 60030. All are welcome to attend.
