PICK-UP DEADLINE: Special Flood Damage Waste Pick-Up Services

The Village of Grayslake has arranged for special pick-up services with Waste Management to assist residents in disposing of flood damaged items as a result of the recent extreme rain storm.

Residents that have experienced flood damage and are looking to dispose of flood damaged items must register for this special pick-up service by visiting the Request for Service System or calling the Village of Grayslake at 847-223-8515.  PLEASE NOTE: Only flood damaged items will be accepted as part of this special pick-up service.

Special pick-up services will begin on Monday, July 17th and run through Friday, July 28th.  Items placed at the curb after 8:00 A.M. on Monday, July 24 will not be picked up.  After July 24 residents can call Waste Management at 1-800-796-9696 to arrange for a special pick-up at their cost.  Pick-ups will continue through the week of July 24 as equipment allows.  Due to the high volume of requests Waste Management will be performing this service on a rolling basis.  Waste Management will be completing pick-ups on Saturday during this period.

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to the high volume of requests Waste Management will be performing this service on a rolling basis.  Waste Management will be completing pick-ups on Saturday during this period.  Special pick-up services may include multiple truck visits in a route within a day.   In a few highly impacted areas the Public Works Department will be assisting with the special pick-up service.  If a Waste Management truck passes your home without collecting your items, please leave your items at the curb and another truck will be by for collection at a later time.

Residents participating in this special pick-up service should follow these preparation steps for the disposal of damaged items:

  • DO NOT place any flood damaged items in your recycling cart.  Please place all items at the curb adjacent to your waste/recycling carts.
  • Debris must be contained in cans or bags not exceeding 33-gallons in size and no heavier than 45 lbs. each.
  • Debris may be bundled; however, cannot exceed 45 lbs. in weight and 4-feet in length and no wider than 2-feet in diameter.
  • Carpeting must be rolled, taped, or tied. Carpet, after being rolled and tied, should be no longer than 4-feet in length and no wider than 2-feet in diameter and weigh no more than 45 lbs. each.
  • Larger items such as damaged furniture may be placed at the curb adjacent to garbage/recycle containers.
  • Appliances may NOT be disposed of as part of this special pick-up service.  Residents looking to dispose of flood damaged appliances must schedule a separate pick-up with Waste Management directly by calling 1-800-796-9696.
  • Electronic items may NOT be disposed of as part of this special pick-up service.  Electronic items may be disposed of at the Grayslake Recycling Center located at 585 Berry Avenue in Grayslake.
