1. How can I protest a parking ticket?

You may also fax it to (847) 223-4821. Please attach a copy of the parking ticket. Allow 7-10 business days for processing.

During this time the due date is placed on hold until a decision has been made. Results will be mailed. Download a Parking Ticket Protest Form.

2. Where can I file an accident report?

Contact 9-1-1 for an officer to be dispatched to the scene of the accident. If no injuries are involved you may come in person to the Grayslake Police Department located at:

A valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and registration (other driver information may be required) is necessary for the officer to complete an accident report.

3. How do I obtain a copy of an accident report?

4. How do I pay my parking ticket?

You have three payment options:

7. How do I get my car released?

Vehicle releases are done on a case by case basis. Please call the non-emergency number (847) 223-2341 for the required release information. Release forms are obtained in person at the Grayslake Police Department. The owner must be present for the release of his/her vehicle, with a valid driver's license to drive the vehicle away.

8. Can I obtain a handicap parking tag at the Grayslake Police Department?

No. The Police Department does have the state required forms, which need to be completed by the applicant & attending physician. Once completed the forms need to be mailed to the Secretary of State.

9. Do I need a vehicle sticker if I live in Grayslake?

The Village of Grayslake does not require residents to have a vehicle sticker.

10. How can I get a background check?

Background checks are only provided for the residents of Grayslake and only for events which have occurred in Grayslake. You may not obtain a background check on anyone other than yourself.

If a national background check is required, the resident must contact the Lake County Sheriff's Office

Proper identification is required: a valid DL, State Photo ID or passport. The Grayslake Police Department provides a form to be filled out by the applicant. Once the background check has been completed a notarized form is returned to the resident. There is no charge for this service.

11. I need to have my fingerprints taken. Can the Police Department do this for me?

Yes. You must be a resident of Grayslake or being fingerprinted for a business in Grayslake. A fingerprint card is required. The fingerprint card needs to be provided by the employer requesting the fingerprinting. The Grayslake Police Department does not provide fingerprint cards. This is a no charge service.

12. How do I sign-up for a house watch / business watch?

You must come in person to the Grayslake Police Department and complete the form. This service is limited to 2 week increments, if more time is necessary special permission must be granted by the Commander of the Police Department.
