Tree City USA
Tree City USA Award-Winner
In April, 2021, the National Arbor Day Foundation recognized the Village of Grayslake as a Tree City USA for its community forestry program. Grayslake has received this award 27 years in a row.
Additionally, the Village of Grayslake was honored with a Tree City USA Growth Award, which recognizes environmental improvements and a higher level of tree care in the community.
About Tree City USA
Tree City USA is a recognized standard of an effective community forestry program and the basis of such a program is a commitment of ongoing improvement and renewal.
According to John Rosenow, President of the National Arbor Day Foundation, "Proper tree-planting and care today will ensure cleaner, healthier, more tree-filled cities and towns tomorrow."
Tree City USA is sponsored in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Several of the Village's successful environmental programs have again won recognition.
Since 2000, through the Village's Tree Replacement Program, over 1,500 new trees have been planted within the Village. This unique partnering program between the Village and Grayslake residents gives residents an opportunity to plant a new tree on their property or in the public parkway with the Village paying for half the cost.
The Lawn Mower Replacement Rebate Program gives residents an opportunity to receive funding when they replace their gas lawn mowers for an electric or manual mower.
