Snow Shoveling Referral Program
Village of Grayslake 2023 Snow Shoveling Referral Program
How does the program work?
The Village of Grayslake’s 2023 Snow Shoveling Referral Program is designed to help provide assistance to Grayslake residents who are over the age of 65 or who have a disability to have snow cleared from the walkways and driveways of their homes. The Village will provide the names and contact information of persons who have registered and are willing to shovel snow on an as needed basis. The program will connect residents in need with local people who are willing to contribute to their community.
The Village is not responsible for background checks on any of the participating people enrolled in the program. Both parties should conduct their own interview and/or reference check if desired before signing on with a particular client or participant. Referrals only for shoveling will be distributed through the Village of Grayslake.
Registered Snow Shovelers
People looking to give back are encouraged to complete the 2023 Application for Snow Shoveling (Snow Shoveler Application PDF). Contact information of shoveler will be shared with residents in need of snow shoveling assistance. Residents will contact the participant directly when assistance is needed. The shoveler is responsible for snow shoveling as requested or for notifying the resident if they are unable to complete the work. Volunteer snow shoveling is encouraged or an hourly rate can be charged at the discretion of the resident and shoveler.
Residents Enrolled in the Program
Residents seeking to join the program are encouraged to fill out the Snow Shoveling Referrals Request Form Snow Shoveling Referral Request Form PDF. The resident is responsible for contacting the shoveler, scheduling a time for shoveling, and following through with any financial agreements arranged.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if there are no shovelers available in my area? It is a possibility that there may not be enough shovelers available to refer. This is a voluntary program and should not be intended to be the resident’s only option for shoveling. No shovelers are employed by the Village as this is a referral program.
How do I know what to pay or change for this service?
Whether the shoveling is done on a volunteer basis or if there is a fee, the amount is up to the resident and the shoveling participant to agree upon. When the shoveler is contacted, they will be able to tell the resident if they charge a fee and the amount. The resident can then either accept or decline the offer for shoveling assistance.
What if the shoveler does not show up?
If the shoveler does not show up, it is recommended that the resident try to reconnect with the shoveler. If the phone call is not returned in a timely manner, the resident should consider contacting another shoveler for their shoveling needs.
