[ARCHIVED] Lake County Civil War Roundtable President to Discuss The Great Rail Movement

Lake County Civil War Roundtable President Charlie Banks will provide a PowerPoint presentation titled "The Great Rail Movement" on Thursday, April 10 at 7 p.m. Since the invention of the railroad locomotive, the military recognized its strategic value. Robert E. Lee used the railroad to squash John Brown's raiders. At the Battle of Bull Run (First Manassas, the movement of Joseph E. Johnston's forces from the Shenandoah Valley to Manassas by rail helped the Confederates carry the day. In April of 1863, General Longstreet moved his corps from Virginia to Georgia by ral. Not to be outdone, the Union moved the 11th and 12th corps from Virginia to Tennessee less than a month later. Lake County Civil War Roundtable President Charlie Banks will give insight into these extraordinary events.
