The Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum is pleased to announce that the Grayslake Heritage Center Foundation received a generous donation of $10,000 from the estate of Marjorie Kipp Brenton and Richard Brenton. This bequest will help to underwrite expenses to stabilize archival materials and artifacts affected by the flood of July 2017. We are deeply appreciative of this timely and much needed gift.
Marjorie Kipp Brenton and Richard Brenton (Marge and Dick to their friends) were life-long Grayslakers. They both attended Grayslake Community High School in its inaugural year. After graduation and the adventures of youth, they returned to Grayslake to marry and raise their family. They had three children, Robyn, Robert, and Leslie. Marge was a nurse, an award-winning gardener, and active in the community as a Girl Scout leader. Dick worked in the trades and ultimately became a building inspector. While they loved their secluded two-acre home on the south edge of town, they were still a part of the fabric of Grayslake. Marge died in 2004. Dick passed away earlier this year. It is fitting that their gift will help to preserve the past of the community that they loved for future generations.
